Yes, we are all smiling after finishing the 72 hole golf challenge – I think that was more relief than happiness. Michael Ord was responsible for starting all this by asking me to take part with him and we soon recruited Liam and Adrian to join us.
This is an annual event that is organised by Cancer Research and this year there were 479 teams throughout the country that entered and the challenge had to be played anytime during August.
So on Wednesday 29th August at a ridiculous time of 04:30 we arrived at the Club aiming to tee off at the first sight of any light and at 05:30 we started the challenge, albeit still dark. We raced round and we are not sure how but we started our third round at 11:00 and really had to slow down, on the final round we even did an extra four holes just to waste some time as we had told people we wouldn’t be coming in until 17:30hrs. You’ve probably seen the video on the 18th of us teeing off all at the same time on our final hole, thoroughly enjoyable day with numerous amounts of banter and laughs and actually some very good golf. But the main thing is we could not have done any of this without your very generous support, with all your donations we have to this date raised just over £4,000 for Cancer Research and finished as the third highest amount raised out of the 479 teams. We could not be more proud of this achievement and we simply cannot thank you all enough. It was great to see so many of you at the 18th to cheer us in and thanks to those who came out on the course and kept us going. Lastly very special thanks to Allison Ord who supplied us all with lunch boxes that simply would last us three days let alone 12 hrs.
Once again, many thanks to you all for all your support, we did the challenge but you raised the money, well done all we couldn’t have done it without you.
